3 Days Uganda Gorilla Trekking Safari

Mountain gorilla, Virunga National Park, DRC, Africa

Overview

Get ready for a once-in-a-lifetime adventure with our 3-day Uganda gorilla trekking safari! Imagine locking eyes with the majestic and endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat—this is what makes this trip so special. Over these three days, you'll journey through the breathtaking landscapes of Uganda as we take you to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, home to the largest population of mountain gorillas. Located in the lush southwestern region of Uganda, Bwindi is divided into four key sectors—Rushaga, Buhoma, Ruhija, and Nkuringo—where the magic happens.

Day to Day Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

We kick off bright and early as our friendly driver-guide picks you up from your preferred location. After a quick briefing, we'll hit the road towards Bwindi. En route, you'll experience Uganda's diverse culture and landscapes—look out for the equator crossing for a fun photo op! Lunch will be served in Mbarara town before we continue through Kabale, heading into the heart of the Buhoma sector of Bwindi. Upon arrival, settle in at your cozy lodge for dinner and a good night’s rest to prepare for tomorrow’s adventure.

Accommodation Options in Buhoma Sector:

  • Luxury: Buhoma Lodge
  • Midrange: Buhoma Community Haven Lodge
  • Budget: Buhoma Rest Camp

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking

Today is the day! After an early breakfast, we head to the park headquarters for a briefing. You’ll be grouped into 8 people and assigned a park ranger guide, ready to explore the jungle. Trekking can take anywhere between 2 to 8 hours, depending on where the gorillas are. But trust us, every second is worth it when you come face-to-face with a family of gorillas. You'll get to spend an unforgettable hour observing their behavior, snapping some photos (flash-free, of course), and marveling at their close-knit social structure.

Once back, you'll receive a certificate for your incredible achievement! If time allows, we’ll head to Lake Bunyonyi for a relaxing canoe ride on Uganda’s deepest lake, soaking in the gorgeous views of the islands and surrounding terraced landscapes.

Accommodation Options in Lake Bunyonyi:

  • Luxury: Bird Nest Resort Lodge
  • Midrange: Arcadia Cottages Lodge
  • Budget: Bunyonyi Overland Resort

Day 3: Return to Kampala

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast while taking in the misty, peaceful surroundings of Lake Bunyonyi. Afterward, we’ll begin our return journey to Kampala. We'll make a stop at Igongo Cultural Centre for a bit of local history and culture, and of course, the equator for more photos and some unique souvenirs. By evening, you’ll arrive in Kampala or Entebbe, where your safari concludes—full of stories, memories, and probably hundreds of gorilla photos!
